Juni 2021: What’s happening?

Eine erste Erkenntnis der Autor:innen – „In the time of a pandemic, digital evolution is an essential contributor to economic resilience.“ – hört sich aus heutiger Sicht bereits erstaunlich vertraut an.

  • die Rolle der Digitalisierung im Leben unter Pandemie-Bedingungen – „Digitalization helped people work, learn, shop, and socialize safely during a pandemic and hold on to some semblance of normalcy.“

  • Schulschließungen und Homeschooling – „In April [2020], an estimated 1.2 billion children were affected by school closures, with learning mostly moving online – for those who had access.“

  • die wachsende Relevanz des Onlineshoppings – „The global e-commerce market is expected to grow by nearly one-third from 2019 to 2020.“

  • die Allgegenwart von Videokonferenzen und Remote Work „Social events such as weddings, birthdays, and holidays quickly shifted online; the widely used video conferencing application, Zoom, at this writing, has a market capitalization of $129 billion, making it worth more than IBM. Ninety-three percent of respondents in a global survey of executives reported an increase in remote working and/or collaboration, with over half of those saying they believe that the shift to remote work will stick.“

  • die Verschärfung von Ungleichheiten – „The pandemic exacerbated existing inequalities, leading many participants in the global economy to question how business and policymakers might work together to ‚build back better’.“

  • und die Notwendigkeiten von verfügbarer, zugänglicher, barrierefreier, digitaler Infrastruktur – „An additional essential lesson this pandemic has taught economies around the world is that the reach and resilience of digital infrastructure and quality of digital inclusion may not be an option anymore but an obligation that nations owe to their citizens.“

  • die Verschärfung der Ungleichheiten – „It should come as no surprise that COVID-19 has widened the digital business gap between digitally advanced firms and firms that were caught off guard by the pandemic.“

Down On Digital Business“; „We found that advanced firms are more likely to use digital transformation to drive revenue growth compared with beginners, where the greater focus is on reducing costs.“

  • Agilität und Innovation – „We also found that advanced firms are focusing more on improving IT capabilities to promote agility and innovation.“

  • die partnerschaftliche Zusammenarbeit, um robuste technologische Lösungen zu finden – „Many services partners worked with clients to accelerate their digital response to support employees in remote work and new digitally enabled distribution models. This type of partnership is a key driver of a future fit tech strategy as it helps to deliver resiliency in response to unexpected conditions while also accelerating adaptability and creativity.“

  • alle Disziplinen der IT sind wieder europaweit gefragt – „Hiring activity during Q1 also confirms the interrelated nature of technology. Software applications require robust network infrastructure, data optimisation, systems integration, management and support, and of course, a strong cybersecurity posture.“

At the skills level, summary analysis across all job postings for all tech job roles suggests employers tend to seek well-rounded candidates. This also reflects the ever-expanding nature of innovation, whereby new platforms, new coding languages, new hardware and devices, new data streams and new combinations of technology building blocks (think IoT) are a de facto part of the job for any technology professional. In the leading technical skills table, there is representation across these areas, including software, infrastructure, data and business applications. While cybersecurity is not specifically listed in these top 10 skills, it is becoming increasingly common for employers to expect baseline cybersecurity expertise for all IT professionals.“

Stay healthy, stay hungry, stay foolish.
