{"id":21122,"date":"2020-05-11T17:33:34","date_gmt":"2020-05-11T15:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/blog\/?p=18895"},"modified":"2022-11-21T16:40:43","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T15:40:43","slug":"remote-first-infrastruktur-faq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/de\/blog\/remote-first-infrastruktur-faq\/","title":{"rendered":"Remote-First aus Infrastrukturperspektive: Eure Fragen beantwortet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Beim Web Talk zu unserer Infrastruktur, die uns erlaubte, spontan auf 100% Remote-Arbeit umzustellen, blieben einige Fragen offen, die auch unser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/blog\/remote-first-aus-infrastruktur-perspektive\/\">vorangegangener Blogartikel<\/a> nicht beantwortet hatte. Auf diese gehen wir an dieser Stelle ein. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Was waren die gr\u00f6\u00dften Herausforderungen f\u00fcr euch, diesen <em>Remote-First-<\/em> bzw. <em>Beyond-Corp-<\/em>Ansatz technisch und organisatorisch aufzubauen? Was hat euch dabei ggf. \u00fcberrascht?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir haben viel Vorarbeit geleistet, um eine moderne Infrastruktur auf die Beine zu stellen. Eines der gr\u00f6\u00dften Projekte war die Entwicklung eines eigenen Identity Management Systems als Basis f\u00fcr die Account- und Stammdatenpflege, das in der Lage ist, s\u00e4mtliche angrenzenden internen und externen Systeme zu bef\u00fcllen und zu \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen. Mittlerweile verwalten wir in dem System auch die automatische Provisionierung und das Mapping von Lizenzen (z.B. f\u00fcr die G Suite oder Office 365) und k\u00f6nnen User sehr einfach und struktutriert On- und Offboarden. Irgendwann sind wir da angekommen, dass die Dinge alle ineinander griffen und viele Mammutprojekte wie die SSO-Umstellung von Microsoft oder Google sich im nachhinein als sehr einfach erwiesen haben \u2013 das hat uns \u00fcberrascht. Und best\u00e4tigt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Was sind Best Practices f\u00fcr die Meeting-Moderationen in dezentralen Teams?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Es gibt klare und einfache Regeln f\u00fcr alle! Z.B. sind alle Teilnehmer:innen per default gemutet, alle haben die Kamera an, man f\u00e4llt anderen nicht ins Wort, man signalisiert Wortmeldungen. Meine Kolleg:innen haben ein paar sehr sch\u00f6ne Blogartikel geschrieben, die sich viel umfassender mit diesem Themenkomplex befassen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/blog\/remote-work\/\">Remote Work<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/blog\/remote-arbeiten-home-office-tipps\/\">Home-Office-Tipps<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inovex.de\/blog\/remote-work-home-office-fragen\/\">Remote Work FAQ<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Wie sichert ihr den SSH-Zugriff auf Maschinen ab?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grunds\u00e4tzlich durch Keys an Stelle von Passw\u00f6rtern. Die meisten Systeme sind nicht direkt via SSH erreichbar \u2013 nur wenn es notwendig ist, ist der SSH Port nach au\u00dfen ge\u00f6ffnet. Grunds\u00e4tzlich verliert der Zugriff via SSH auf Produktionssysteme bei uns mehr und mehr an Stellenwert und ist f\u00fcr den normalen Regelbetrieb und Updateprozesse nicht notwendig, da diese Abl\u00e4ufe in der Regel komplett \u00fcber Deployment Pipelines automatisiert sind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benutzt ihr f\u00fcr 2FA Hardware (Tokengenerator, YubiKey etc) oder eine mobile App?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir nutzen an einigen Stellen U2F Token, am h\u00e4ufigsten kommen bei uns aber TOTP Tokens in Kombination mit entsprechenden Apps wie etwa Google Authenticator zum Einsatz. Unser 2FA-System ist allerdings modular und wir planen zuk\u00fcnftig weitere Mechanismen zu erg\u00e4nzen und das System ggf. adaptiv zu gestalten \u2013 je nach Plausibilit\u00e4t der Anfrage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wie viele Mitarbeiter:innen warten die beschriebene Infrastruktur?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unser IT &amp; Cloud Team besteht aktuell aus acht Vollzeitkr\u00e4ften und zwei Azubis. Deren Aufgaben umfassen allerdings alle Bereiche der Unternehmens-IT, von der eigenen und der Public-Cloud-Infrastruktur \u00fcber das Cloud Management, den Betrieb der inovex-Systemlandschaft und aller Services, dem IT Engineering bis hin zu IT Einkauf, Standort-IT und Medientechnik.<\/p>\n<p>Grunds\u00e4tzlich verfolgen wir hier den Ansatz Eat your own Dogfood. Was wir unseren Kunden empfehlen, nutzen wir auch selbst \u2013 moderne, skalierbare und hoch automatisierte L\u00f6sungen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welche Datenschutzbedenken habt ihr?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir pr\u00fcfen alle Systeme und Services und bewerten in unserem crossfunktionalen Datenschutzteam jeden neuen Service hinsichtlich unserer TOMs, einer DSGVO-konformen Verarbeitung von Daten und nat\u00fcrlich hinsichtlich strategischer Aspekte wie Vendor Lock-in oder auch der Einsetzbarkeit von Services z.B. im besonders sensiblen Kundenkontext. Grunds\u00e4tzlich empfehlen wir die Etablierung eines transparenten Prozesses f\u00fcr die Bewertung neuer Tools. Dieser Prozess sollte VOR der Nutzung eines Tools konsequent eingehalten werden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gibt es bei euch SSO \u00fcber ADFS oder m\u00fcsst ihr euch mehrfach am Tag bei den einzelnen Services authentifizieren?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir haben einen echten SSO und man muss sich nur neu anmelden, wenn die Session abl\u00e4uft. Des Weiteren ist man direkt bei allen Services angemeldet \u2013 sowohl bei allen unseren eigenen Diensten als auch bei Microsoft, Google oder Slack. Wir haben eine sehr gute UX, was zu einer hohen Akzeptanz von starken Passw\u00f6rtern und 2FA-Mechanismen f\u00fchrt.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>As Code<\/em>-Infrastruktur hat nat\u00fcrlich den gro\u00dfen Vorteil, dass ihr von \u00fcberall aus das System warten k\u00f6nnt. Gibt es weitere, eher versteckte Vorteile gegen\u00fcber Selfhosting und welche Nachteile gibt es?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grunds\u00e4tzlich hat <em>as Code<\/em> erstmal relativ wenig mit dem Ort zu tun, man kann auch klassische, manuelle Administration aus der Ferne erledigen. Der gro\u00dfe Vorteil von deklarativen Ans\u00e4tzen wie Infrastructure as Code ist vielmehr Nachvollziehbarkeit, Automatisierung und Geschwindigkeit. Wir sind in der Lage, Umgebungen mit verteilten Systemen in wenigen Minuten komplett zu provisionieren \u2013 sowohl bei \u00c4nderungen als auch im Desasterfall.<\/p>\n<p>Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, dass man den Code, der in einer Umgebung wie der inovex Cloud funktioniert, recht einfach f\u00fcr Umgebungen wie Microsoft Azure, AWS oder Google Cloud portieren kann.<\/p>\n<p>Eine potentielle Herausforderung ist nat\u00fcrlich der Wissensaufbau, da hier nat\u00fcrlich gegen\u00fcber der klassischen Administration F\u00e4higkeiten im Bereich der Softwareentwicklung gefragt sind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welche Software nutzt ihr \u00fcberwiegend?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir nutzen f\u00fcr Infrastructure as Code Terraform und als Deployment- and Configuration-Management-System Ansible \u2013 beides in Kombination mit GitLab zur Versionskontrolle und gitlab-ci als CI-System. Unsere Anwendungen laufen in der Regel in Docker-Containern auf der auf OpenStack basierenden inovex Cloud in unserem Rechenzentrum in Frankfurt oder in unserem VPC bei Microsoft Azure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warum geht die Administration weiterhin \u00fcber VPN? Habt ihr Erfahrungen mit Cloudflare Access f\u00fcr SSH und RDP? Das nutzt SAML \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir nutzen den SSH-Zugriff sehr selten, da die Systeme in der Regel komplett automatisiert verwaltet und aktualisiert werden. Wenn es ernste, unbekannte Probleme gibt nutzen wir ein lokales VPN.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F\u00fcr CI\/CD: Benutzt ihr da bevorzugt Container?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unsere Anwendungen laufen in der Regeln in Containern, auch Builds laufen zum Gro\u00dfteil in Containern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nutzen eure Teams auch Infrastrukturen direkt in der Public Cloud oder geht das immer \u00fcber den zentralen IaC-Ansatz?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wir nutzen den Infrastructure as Code Ansatz sowohl f\u00fcr unsere eigene Cloud als auch f\u00fcr unsere Umgebung bei Microsoft Azure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welche Client-Ger\u00e4te nutzt ihr?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ein Aspekt f\u00fcr unseren SSO-Ansatz und die \u00fcberwiegend webbasierten Services ist unsere heterogene Client-Landschaft. Unsere User nutzen Windows 10, Linux oder macOS \u2013 je nachdem, womit die Kolleg:innen sich am wohlsten f\u00fchlen und effizient arbeiten k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wie l\u00e4uft bei euch ein typisches Kundenprojekt ab?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Der Einstieg ist bei uns in der Regel ein gemeinsamer Architektur-Workshop, in dem wir mit dem Kunden zusammen ein umfassendes Bild der Systemlandschaft und des Rahmens, in dem sich ein Vorhaben bewegen wird, skizzieren, und dann gemeinsam agil ein Backlog mit konkreten Stories erstellen. Nach dem Workshop hat der Kunde einen guten \u00dcberblick \u00fcber den Umfang, die Risiken und m\u00f6gliche Kostentreiber und kann entscheiden ob, in welchem Umfang und mit wem er das Projekt realisieren m\u00f6chte \u2013 hier freuen wir uns nat\u00fcrlich dar\u00fcber, wenn sich der Kunde f\u00fcr uns entscheidet! Die Projekte selbst sind sehr individuell, teils vor Ort, teils remote, mit kompletten Teams von inovex oder mit gemischten Teams \u2013 je nach Situation.
