Yocto Quick Start
With Yocto to your own Linux distribution for embedded and IoT devices – we will be happy to advise you on Yocto Engineering.

What is Yocto Linux?
Yocto Project® is an open source platform for the development of customised Linux distributions for embedded systems. In recent years, Yocto has established itself as a standard in the industry and, thanks to its flexibility and customisability, allows even large embedded software projects to be mastered innovatively and maintainably throughout the entire product cycle.

How does Yocto work?
Yocto is based on a modular principle in which various components such as kernels, libraries and applications are combined to create a custom Linux distribution. By using recipes and metadata, developers can control and customise the build process to achieve the desired configuration for the end devices.

What advantages does the Yocto Project offer?
Yocto is characterised by a high degree of flexibility, as it is fully patchable and maintainable, which is particularly advantageous for managing large fleets. It also allows developers to customise the configuration of the Linux operating system to suit their specific requirements. Yocto also supports a variety of hardware architectures and enables the development of Linux distributions for a wide range of embedded systems.

Challenges in the implementation of Yocto
Diverse concepts and a high degree of flexibility ensure a certain learning curve as well as more complex configuration options when using Yocto, which should be clarified in advance by experts. Creating and maintaining your own Linux distributions requires specialised knowledge that is not available in every development team. We are happy to support you with the implementation.
