Talk 1: Yocto Vendor BSPs – The good, the bad, the ugly (Anna-Lena Marx)
Vendor Board Support Packages (BSPs) promise a quick start, but we all know the reality: a tangled mess of demo apps, weird custom tools, and an old, unmaintained kernel. This is a nightmare for products that need to live longer than a demo on the developer’s desk.
In this talk, we get our hands dirty. Forget the polished slides; we’re going to take a live, no-holds-barred look at some real-world vendor BSPs to see the common pain points firsthand. From there, we’ll discuss what we actually need from a BSP for a production device and explore the tipping point where setting up your own clean foundation becomes the smarter choice for building products that are meant to last.
Talk 2: What keeps you from updating your Yocto version? (Vyacheslav Yurkov)
Let’s take a look at the different Yocto usage stories and see why you might want or not want to update, as well as what issues you might encounter in the process of updating (or not updating). Be part of this interactive session!
About the speakers
Anna-Lena Marx is the TechLead for Embedded Linux at inovex. With degrees in Embedded Systems (M.Sc.), Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering, she specializes in creating robust systems with the Yocto Project. Her expertise also includes Linux kernel development and Embedded Android. A special focus of her work is on lifecycle strategies, helping companies ensure the long-term compliance of their products. In her spare time, she is developing a Zephyr-based open-source e-book reader.
Vyacheslav Yurkov is an independent freelance contractor, and founder of a small consultancy called OSS Keepers. Being an active contributor to various open source projects like Linux Kernel, Yocto Project, Trusted Firmware A, and others, he helps companies in the Embedded field with their projects. He specializes in the Yocto Project, Linux Device Drivers, board bring-up, secure boot and different update workflows. His main programming languages are C, C++ in different standards, Python, and Golang.
