Pepper Visits Gerber Shopping Centre – powered by inovex
New retail robot can be experienced live.
(Karlsruhe, 11.10.2017) Visitors to Stuttgart's Gerber shopping centre will soon be able to interact with a robot programmed by IT project experts inovex.
Pepper the robot
Pepper is a humanoid robot which has various social functions, including, for example, communicating with and guiding people or performing service-related tasks. Pepper's appearance at the Gerber shopping centre is the result of a PhD research project carried out jointly by the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Munich-based consulting firm elaboratum.
The project aims to discover ways in which humanoid robots can be used in brick-and-mortar retailers and to analyse how customers react to these social robots. Specifically, this means that visitors to the Gerber shopping centre will be able to see for themselves how it feels to talk to – and even take selfies with – a robot.
While the Uni Erlangen-Nuremberg and elaboratum were responsible for the concepts behind the versatile robot’s capabilities, inovex programmed it.
The robot is one of the highlights of the VR Expo, which will be held in the Gerber shopping centre on 13th and 14th October 2017. This free expo is open from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm on both days and will offer industry experts and the curious public a variety of insights into virtual reality, virtual engineering and 3D simulations. Visitors to the expo will be able to put the latest mixed, augmented, and virtual reality business and engineering applications through their paces and connect with companies which are active in these fields.
